I absolutely agree with Jason, and Mr. Kozak, it is exactly this type of attitude, and behavior that makes all motorists see ALL CYCLISTS as the same. I for one believe that all counties, cities and states should be this aggressive, I think that if motorists could see that a cyclist is being treated as a motorist for breaking the law it would help to open their eyes to the rules of the road. You want to complain that they have nothing to do but harass you, however I am betting you will be the first to cry foul when a motorist "gets too close" or doesn't stop for you (by the way Max, were you wearing your helmet?). Follow the rules to earn their respect.

You have to obey the rules of the road, this is why we have the legal rights to use them. Bicycles are viewed under Kansas state law as the same as any other motorized vehicle. This is why you are allowed to ride on the street, to take a bike tour across the state, etc. If you want to change the law so you do not have to abide by the traffic laws, that is fine; be prepared to only ride on the sidewalks, and hope you don't like doing anymore centuries or bike tours. That's where you are headed. Pay your fine and enjoy your rights as a cyclist. They have been hard fought for.
