Kansas Student Killed in New York

23-year-old Alec Waggoner of Beloit, Kansas, who was a graduate student at Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York, was killed on Saturday night when struck by an SUV as he was riding his bicycle with friends.

From the Syracuse Post-Standard:

The driver of the 1998 Lincoln Navigator was Eric Wadley, 34, of Syracuse. He was traveling up the curved road that borders the Thornden Park pool and leads up to the Round-Top.

Three bicyclists, including Waggoner, were traveling down this same road at about 11:10 p.m., according to police.

The SUV and Waggoner collided on the curve.

The roadway is a one-way street and the SUV was traveling in the correct direction. There is also evidence at the scene that Wadley attempted to avoid the collision upon seeing he bicyclists, according to Cecile.

No tickets have been issued.
