Bicycle Friendly Community Luncheon in Omaha

From Activate Omaha:

When you think of Boulder, Colorado and Portland, Oregon, you think of vibrant communities with healthy, active people enjoying the outdoors. While Omaha does not have their physical attributes, we believe that the metro Omaha area can create an environment where people are just as active on a daily basis.

We are pleased to invite you to attend and participate in an important discussion on utilizing the bicycle as a simple solution to many of the complex problems facing the Omaha metro area.

John Burke, CEO of Trek Bicycles, will be our guest. He will discuss how the nation is realizing that creating a bicycle friendly community can work to address a myriad of issues for one’s community. These issues include impacting the obesity epidemic, traffic congestion, pollution, dependence on foreign oil and carbon footprints.

In addition, we will hear from Andy Clarke, Executive Director of the League of American Bicyclists. Andy has a strong policy background and will speak to how to create, interpret, and implement multi-modal transportation models that can make Omaha more bicycle/walking friendly.

Omaha’s previous bicycle friendly community application was denied. This luncheon is part of the plan to change that.

The lunch takes place on November 11th, from 11:30-1:00pm, at the W.H. Thompson Alumni Center on the University of Nebraska at Omaha campus. The cost for this lunch is $10 per person. Please RSVP to info@activateomaha.org or 402-934-5923 if you would like to attend. Space is limited.
