Bicycle Advocacy Training Opportunity in Kansas City, Oct. 19-21

If you’re interested in becoming an effective advocate for bicycling in your community, here’s your chance to learn, from “longtime advocates and national experts with firsthand experience conducting — and winning — bicycle and pedestrian campaigns”:

Winning Campaigns Training 2012National Winning Campaigns Training in KC

A rare opportunity for intensive advocacy training from national experts.

BikeWalkKC is honored to host one of four national boot camps for advocacy training and campaign planning. The Alliance for Biking and Walking is coming to KC October 19-21st to present an action-oriented training to help advocates plan and implement successful campaigns to bring about real change in a community.

Advocates in the fields of bicycling, walking, disability rights, community development, neighborhood activtivism, transit advocacy, and more are welcome to take advantage of this rare opportunity to receive nationally-acclaimed training right here in the Midwest.

For just $125 you get three days of high quality training, invaluable networking with other advocates, and powerful tools to change your own community.

It’s not often that training such as this is available in the midwest, so this is indeed a rare opportunity!

The training is conducted by the Alliance for Biking & Walking, and is hosted by BikeWalkKC.

The training takes place over parts of three days, beginning on Friday, October 19, 2012 at 5pm, continuing most of the day Saturday, and wrapping up by mid-afternoon on Sunday.

The venue is the BikeWalkKC offices, located at the Crossroads Office Port at 208 West 19th Street in Kansas City, MO. There are excellent bike routes leading to the site, and ample bicycle parking at BikeWalkKC.

The cost is $75 for Alliance members or $125 for non-members ($100 for Alliance members an $150 for non-members after September 21). The price includes snacks Friday evening, and breakfast and lunch Saturday and Sunday. A bicycle or walking tour Saturday evening is also included.

A limited number of scholarships are available from the Alliance, to help offset tuition, travel, and lodging expenses. Learn more here.

To learn more about the event, you can download the brochure (PDF), visit BikeWalkKC, or sign up with the Alliance for Biking and Walking.

I’m planning to attend, and I hope to see you there, too. It can be difficult to free up a weekend, I know, but this really is a great opportunity, and one that may not come around again for some time in our region. It’d be wonderful to have lots of bicycling advocates from throughout Kansas attend!
