Fall 2012 Bicycle Friendly Community Designations Announced

Bicycle Friendly CommunitiesThe League of American Bicyclists just announced their Fall 2012 honorees for Bicycle Friendly Communities, and a few new cities from our region have cause to celebrate, having become one of the 28 new and 19 renewing Bicycle Friendly Communities:

Bentonville, Arkansas – Bronze

Castle Rock, Colorado – Bronze

Lee’s Summit, Missouri – Bronze

Stillwater, Oklahoma – Bronze

The Bicycle Friendly Communities program recognize communities for their efforts in promoting bicycling, and awards designations at five levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond (with Diamond being the most bicycle-friendly).

Congratulations to all the new Bicycle Friendly Communities!

Although no Kansas communities were added or renewed this round, Kansas currently has three Bicycle Friendly Communities: Lawrence, Manhattan, and Shawnee, all at the Bronze level. In Fall 2011, Leawood made the “Honorable Mention” list.
