Bicyclist Killed in Emporia Crash

On October 24th, Ronald W. Kennedy of Ottawa was struck and killed by a pickup truck in Emporia.

According to the Emporia Gazette:

Thursday evening at 10:04 p.m. Lyon County Sheriff Deputies, Emporia Police Department along with the Emporia Lyon County Ambulance responded to the 600 Block of W. U.S. Highway 50 in Lyon County for a report of an injury accident.

Jean Getten was driving a 2004 Dodge Ram Pickup west bound on Highway 50 when she struck a 51-year-old male who was riding a bicycle.

The bicyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene. The bicyclist is identified as Ronald W. Kennedy of Ottawa.

The accident is currently still under investigation by the Lyon County Sheriff Office.

No further details about the crash have been released yet. Will update when more info becomes available…

Ronald Kennedy is the sixth bicyclist killed on Kansas roads in 2013. Michael Glaser was killed by a train in Emporia on October 9th, Hayley Berrios was killed in Lawrence on July 21st, Ralph Lowe died on July 10th in Topeka, Jeremiah Conlin died in Kansas City on July 9th, and Gail Kline was killed near Salina on May 31st.
