West Elk Bicycle Classic

The West Elk Bicycle Classic is an annual fundraiser that takes place in Gunnison, Colorado. It is a Gran Fondo style timed road ride from Gunnison to Crested Butte, circumscribing the West Elk mountains, with either 130-mile or 100-mile route options. The 130-mile features nearly 10,000 feet of climbing.

The Gran Fondo is literally a "big ride" that originated in Italy. In the Gran Fondo style, you leave in a mass start with cyclists ranging from professional racers to recreational cyclists giving you the best of both worlds. You feel as if you are in race like the Pro Challenge as there will be official timing and scoring, turn marshals and epic start and finish lines complete with barricades, banners, music and an announcer.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Western State College of Colorado Cycling Team, helping to fund scholarships for athletes and helping offset travel, coaching, and equipment costs.
