Kansas Cross-State Bicycle Route Guide - East-West Northern Route

US Highway 36 crosses the northern tier of Kansas. It is a cross-state bicycle route recommended by the Kansas Department of Transportation. It offers wide shoulders along all or most of its length, and low traffic volumes, particularly in the western half of the state.

Length of route: About 390 miles

Traffic volumes range from under 1000 vehicles per day in the west, to 2000 or so in the central section of the route, to more than 5000 vehicles per day near the Missouri River.
