The Switchgrass Mountain Bike Trail is located in Wilson State Park, on the southeastern edge of Wilson Lake, in the heart of the Smoky Hills region of Kansas, approximately 25 miles east of Russell. Wilson Lake is one of Kansas' premier recreation hotspots, considered by many to be the most beautiful and clear lakes in the state.
The Switchgrass Mountain Bike Trail features 22 miles of singletrack mountain bike trail. Most of the trail is intermediate level, though some is more difficult. There is also a 5-mile novice loop for beginners.
The terrain along the Switchgrass Mountain Bike Trail features scenic red sandstone rock formations, reminiscent of western Colorado and eastern Utah -- this is anything but the stereotypical image of pancake-flat Kansas. If you like mountain biking, you'll love this trail!
The Switchgrass Mountain Bike Trail is home to the annual Kansas Fat Tire Festival, which takes place each May at the park.
in 2012, the Switchgrass Mountain Bike Trail was named an "Epic Trail" by the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA).
