2008 Cyclocross Nationals Wrap-Up

The 2008 Cyclocross National Championships are now in the books, and we can take a look back at the pain, joy, and drama of 4 days of racing featuring over 1800 cyclists, including many of the top riders in the nation, battling it out on the grass and mud of Tiffany Springs Park in Kansas City, Missouri.

In the Elite Men’s division, Ryan Trebon of Bend, OR won his second National Championship (his previous win was in 2006), followed by Jamey Driscoll of Jericho, VT, Jonathan Page of Northfield, NH, Jesse Anthony of Beverly, MA, and Tim Johnson of Boston, MA.

In the Elite Women’s race, Katie Compton of Colorado Springs, CO won her fifth consecutive Cyclocross National Championship. She was followed by Rachel Lloyd, Georgia Gould, Kerry Barnholt, and Maureen Bruno Roy.

Last year’s local champions, Steve Tilford and Catherine Walberg, both of Topeka, once again won their age divisions in the Masters races (Master 45-49 Male and Master 45-49 Female, respectively). Other top local racers included Adam Lang of Olathe, KS (2nd place in Category B 10-29 Male), Chris Wallace of Shawnee, KS (2nd place in Junior 15-16 Male), Glenda Taylor of Topeka, KS (5th place in Master 50-54 Female), and Cameron Chambers of Lenexa, KS (Singlespeed Mixed). There’s still a bit more cross to come this year (and in January ’09), but I’m already looking forward to next season’s action!
