Kansas Wildlife Areas Bicycle Camping

Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism

The Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism (KDWPT) is charged with "protecting and managing Kansas' natural resources and promoting outdoor recreation and conservation". KDWPT manages the system of state fishing lakes, as well as numerous state parks and state fishing lakes. The camping facilities at most Kansas Wildlife Areas are primitive, with few services.

The following Kansas Wildlife Areas offer camping opportunities throughout the state:

Kansas Wildlife Areas Camping Info

KDWPT offers this general information about camping on Kansas Wildlife Areas:

Wildlife areas are managed specifically for wildlife and hunting opportunities, so camping is limited. Many wildlife areas are located near state parks, where excellent camping facilities are available. Some remote wildlife areas offer primitive camping in designated areas, but it's a good idea to check with the area Wildlife and Parks office for more specific camping information.

Also, if camping in a wildlife area (especially if dispersed camping), be particularly cognizant of Kansas Hunting Seasons (see KDWPT Calendar) – do not put yourself at risk by camping where people might be shooting guns!
